This well-known Classic Yacht, ALLEGRO, was reportedly commissioned by the, then, US Ambassador to Italy & custom-built & launched in 1928 as "AMBASSADOR" by the famous Stephens Brothers Yard of Stockton in the California Delta. Full Blueprints are available from the Haggin Museum in Stockton. She features twin GMC 671 Diesel engines by Graymarine, old growth Burma TEAK cabins & decks and a fly bridge. She also features both pilothouse & fly bridge helms (this is rare in 20's vintage vessels). Many custom features include: Spiral Staircase, Stainless steel Galley, Double Bunk in aft stateroom, Aft Deck Canopy, Large Shower, large protected deck over aft trunk cabin & MORE! ALLEGRO was a very comfortable live-aboard in Sausalito for many years and would be a great live-aboard again. She has recently received a considerable amount of out of the water hull repair by Ross Sommers' truly outstanding Richardson Bay Boatyard & appears to have no hull leaks. ALLEGRO has an excellent layout, two enclosed bathrooms, forward & aft staterooms, great cockpit layout, large upper sundeck with flybridge helm & a great deal more to recommend her. She suffers from deferred maintenance & will require extensive restoration. Engine condition is unclear; but the 6-71 Diesels were worked on & gotten running adequately last year (for her to be operational in a movie role) & are expected to be serviceable ("6-71's" are well-known as being tough & hard to kill as well as cheap & easy to work upon). Basically, we believe she has "good bones" and is an excellent restoration candidate as well being a candidate for membership in the prestigious Classic Yacht Association. We think ALLEGRO appears to be a great opportunity to own & enjoy a significant San Francisco Bay Area Classic. ALLEGRO is one of the heavier-built coastal cruiser variety built by Stephens in the period which were built to much stouter scantlings than the boats built for Bay & river service as well as having Silicon Bronze fastenings & other higher-quality marine materials used in their construction. A sistership, built by Stephens named "CONQUEST" is for sale currently in Southern California at $219,000, she is in excellent condition & serves to illustrate how beautiful & valuable ALLEGRO could be once restored.
