"Ella McKenzie" is the last wooden tug built by McKenzie Barge and Derrick at the Dollarton Shipyard in North Vancouver in 1951. She was used as a harbour tug and dredge tender and her duties included oil spill clean-up. She underwent a significant restoration at Commodore Yachts in Shelter Island Marina which included major woodwork, increased headroom in wheelhouse and cabin and conversion to recreational use. A very solid, no nonsense west coast cruiser with many new ship systems and basic but comfortable accommodation.
June 2016 - Lifted for bottom paint and service. Fresh oil and paint on all wood surfaces. All through hulls inspected and serviced. Cabin tops and funnel painted.
Surveyed by Phil Oldham with no recommendations for work at present. In remarkable condition.

Vessel underwent total rebuild of hull, cabin and decks at Commodores Boats in Shelter Island Marina, Delta, BC, to make it serviceable as a recreational vessel. Currently the forepeak is configured with a V-berth under a pair of single berths. The single berths could be removed easily if the V-berth was deemed more suitable. In addition, the dinette folds down to make a double berth in the main cabin.
There is an enclosed head in the forepeak with a electric toilet that pumps to a holding tank which can be pumped out via a deck fitting to a dockside facility or pumped overboard via macerator pump where appropriate. It is also equipped with a Y-valve to allow direct overboard discharge in remote areas.
The galley is aft of the wheelhouse in the main cabin and includes a refrigerator, 2 burner propane stove, Dickenson Pacific oil stove with oven, stainless steel sink with hot/cold pressure water system and various lockers and cupboards for cutlery, dish, cooking ware and pantry storage.
Forward of the galley and up a few steps is the wheelhouse and aft is the dinette which can comfortably seat 4 people. To starboard is a companionway to the forepeak accommodation, the head and the engine room access.
Very stout construction,... obviously commercial tug weight and strength and obviously well rebuilt. The accommodations are spartan but could be dressed up to suit a new owners tastes. Lots of character and in great condition!

Exhaust system changed from dry stack through middle of cabin to wet exhaust exiting on port side amidships.

Fuel: 200 gallons in two aluminum tanks.
Water: 100 gallons in single plastic tank. 11 gallon Force 10 hot water tank heats water with coil off engine cooling system or 120 VAC.
Waste: 40 gallons in plastic tank.
Batteries: 4 X 6 volt deep cycle house service batteries.
1 X 8D engine starting battery.
Shore power: 120 VAC X 30 amp dockside power system with 50' shore cord, inlet fitting, galvanic isolator, master breaker and tabulated and fused distribution panels.
Chargers: Xantrex True Charge 20.
Alternators: 75 amp alternator on main engine.
Vessel completely rewired in 2014 on both AC and DC circuits.
Garmin 720 radar/gps/chartplotter with chart chip.
Standard Horizon Explorer VHF with DSC calling and GPS connection for emergency location.
Humminbird Piranha Max 215 depth sounder.
Manual remote operated 12 VDC searchlight mounted on top of wheelhouse.
