The entire interior has been newly painted and varnished and a new headliner installed. All electrical wiring is new as is all the plumbing. The new reverse cycle air conditioning system keeps the accommodations comfortable in any weather.
Forward is located a generous guest cabin with large vee berths. Ample storage is provided beneath the berths, in four drawers and in the large hanging locker to starboard. The overhead hatch and two opening port lights provide excellent natural ventilation.
Proceeding aft, to port is a full galley equipped with a new three burner, propane stove with oven and Monel lined 8 cu. ft. refrigerator serviced by a new refrigeration system. Above and below the Corian counter top are numerous drawers and cabinets and opening ports for ventilation.
To starboard is the forward head with new electric head, sink and ample storage and opening port light.
Moving aft and up three steps is the main saloon and the lower helm station. At the starboard helm station you will find new engine controls, new Garmin GPS plotter, new instrumentation and switchgear. Aft of the helm to starboard is a large settee facing director's chairs to port. Original book cases and liquor locker complement the new cushions and upholstery. The large windows provide excellent visibility and slide open for excellent natural ventilation. Additional storage is located throughout the saloon. The pilot house roof and sides have been reinforced with additional frames to increase the load bearing capacity of the flying bridge. A new headliner was then installed.
Through the aft saloon door is the center cockpit. Although this space is outside protection from the sun and rain is provided by an permanent top which is an attactive extention of the saloon roof. This top terminates aft in an elleptical curve from side to side, reminicent of the "Modern" era in which she was built. This is a perfect place for cocktails and dinner. Large hatches in the cockpit sole provide excellent acces to the engine compartment.
Aft of the cockpit is the spacious after cabin equipped with hanging locker, drawers mirrored vanity and ample stowage. A new, custom made innerspring double matterass has soft hinges for easy access to the steering gear compartment below. There is a full, enclosed head with a stall shower to port. Both the after cabin and after head are equipped with opening ports for good ventilation.
Aft of the after cabin is a stern cockpit for fishing and acess to the swim platform.
The flying bridge was removed and a new one was designed by the a long time Huckins designer, built and installed in 2009, with all new railings, ladder, venturi wind deflector, engine controls, instrumentation, Garmin GPS plotter, seating and bimini top. The new bridge provides lots of stowage for the life raft, life preservers, etc. A tonneu cover protects the bridge when not in use.
The recent extensive refit was begun in 2009 and performed by the skilled crew at the venerable Crocker's Boatyard and continued until 2012. The yacht was commissioned and lightly cruised for the past 3 summers, returning to Crocker's for winter storage, continued restoration and fine tuning. LJ is now completed including the following NEW equipment: engines, generator (Westerbeke 5kw), tanks, rudders, props, shafts, through hull fittings, AC, refrigeration, all wiring, custom electrical panel, plumbing, cushions, mattress, hand rails, flying bridge, bow rail, radar mast, dinghy cradle, electronics, electronic dual single lever controls, engine instrumentation, fire suppression, electric heads, waste systems, water system, head liners, radar mast & rigging, life raft and more. A Dyer sailing dinghy is nested in cradles on the after cabin and is launched with the mast/boom.
All structural and cosmetic issues were addressed including hull repairs including a new stem, deck repairs, rebuilt helms, new flying bridge, new SS railings, new flying bridge deck, new deck beams, new swim platform, new engine hatches and the framing, repair of the window surrounds, refurbished hatches, painted decks and paint/varnish of the entire interior.
Upon completion of the refit Little Joe won the prestigious "Best Professional Restoration" award at the Mystic WoodenBoat Show.
All work was preformed to make Little Joe sound, safe, beautiful and an excellent performer while preserving the wonderful look, feel and details of a Huckins Fairform Flyer.
