Completely Rebuilt in 2006 ~ Established Business
Sunfish was originally built in 1960 by Jeffries Boats, Inc. of Venice, California as a 49’ passenger and dive boat. In 2005, the seller- an accomplished custom-boat builder himself- completed a major refit, making this sturdy girl an even sturdier and purpose-built profit center.
The refit included a masterful, 4’ hull extension with integral swim-step, new main deck, deck beams, fasteners, fiberglassing of the hull, and (near) new aluminum fuel tanks. See Full Specs for details. The expert workmanship, ingenuity, and attention to detail instills complete confidence
If you’re looking for a business that’s established, fun, and profitable, Sunfish should be at the top of your list; she is the main component of a thriving kayak tour company that is well-known in the area as a must-experience adventure. Nature lovers and thrill seekers book their trips months in advance. Sunfish is also a capable dive boat, fishing machine, snorkel and SUP platform, etc. Her applications are limited only by your imagination.
Additionally, the vicinity is poised for massive growth as there are simply no other unexploited marinas between Marina Del Rey and Santa Barbara- and Sunfish promises to reap the benefits. See below for more details. Don’t miss out on this versatile, inspected commercial boat and thriving business.

The result is a smart, sturdy, and versatile workhorse that promises to perform for another 50 years. A testament to the workmanship and condition, having just undergone her bi-annual inspection, the coast guard inspector gave her an A++ with no recommendations. A sub-chapter T vessel, she’s inspected for 49 passengers plus crew.
She is constructed from laminated marine-grade plywood and sheathed with fiberglass on her exterior. Every fastener was replaced in 2005 with bronze and stainless steel screws and bolts. Go below and you will be amazed at how clean and over-built she is. The seller installed a new main deck in 2005. Additionally, all new deck beams were built- each beam constructed of 5 laminates marine plywood bonded with West Systems Epoxy, oriented on edge for a rock-steady, no-flex deck, then treated to the three-stage coating system:

- Epoxy primer and
- LP topcoat
In addition to her comely, classic lines, Sunfish features a masterfully-flared bow and semi-displacement hull that make for dry and easy cruising even in seas that would send other passenger vessels running for shelter. Combined with her generous 19’ beam, low profile, and heavy displacement, Sunfish is a uniquely-stable and sea-kindly platform, making her ideal for transporting nature lovers to the action without discomfort even to passengers prone to sea-sickness. Her shallow draft means delivery and recovery of kayakers closer to the island is a breeze.
Passengers easily board Sunfish from the swim-step, through the transom gate, or the side gates. The cockpit is expansive and uncluttered due to the robust overhead rack system that stows the kayaks securely out of the way. Wide, protected, walk-around side-decks make for easy movement about the main deck. Two engine box hatches and a box hatch provide ample seating and ready access to systems.
Forward of the engine boxes are port and starboard steps to the bridge-deck and pilothouse, below which is the cabin. Just inside the cabin companionway to port is the marine head. Directly across to starboard is a changing room for passengers’ convenience and privacy. Forward from there, to port is a U-shaped settee. Across to starboard are two sets of built-in bench seats and dining tables. Forward to port is an efficiency galley with stainless steel sink, fridge, microwave oven and storage. Forward from the galley is a cuddy with a v-berth, currently used for storage.
Accessed via the main deck stairs, the pilothouse provides a commanding view of all quarters. Well-equipped with a good compliment of navigation and communication electronics and a captain’s watch berth / settee to port.
Sunfish is powered by twin Cummins 6CTA 8.3-M3 (aka 350C) diesel mains. Manufactured in 2000, these 8.3L, four-stroke, inline six-cylinder powerplants make 350hp @ 2500 RPM each, and are tier II compliant.
The 350C is among the most reliable marine engines made. They showed just over 2,000 hours when the current owner purchased Sunfish. Over the subsequent 10 years, the current owner has logged approximately 2300 hours while operating and maintaining them conscientiously. The engines are clean, strong, and have been trouble free.

The March 2016 survey assigned an estimated market value of $400,000 for this unique, solid, clean workhorse.
Sunfish is the centerpiece of an established, profitable, and popular tour business. With two dive compressors and included whips and tank storage brackets, Sunfish is a capable dive-excursion boat. The ingenious, custom, power-assisted, submersible swim/dive platform with hand rails is an absolute dream for deploying and retrieving divers heavily laden with gear and helping kayakers of all skill levels to board and launch with confidence.
Currently, the seller is operating the most popular kayak tour business in the region by taking people of all ages and skill levels to Anacapa Island. For those unfamiliar, Anacapa is a small volcanic island located nine miles off the coast of Oxnard, California, where Channel Island Harbor, home to Sunfish, is perfectly situated. The island is composed of a series of narrow islets with precipitous cliffs dropping off steeply into the sea, fascinating coastal rock formations, caves, and arches through which kayakers can glide. With such pristine natural beauty, Anacapa Island is world famous as an ideal playground for kayakers, divers, and all nature lovers.
Anacapa is the smallest of the northern islands of the Channel Islands archipelago, and is within the Channel Islands National Park.
A buyer could easily assume operation of the Anacapa kayak tour business, or take the boat elsewhere for other uses. No other operators deliver the fun that Sunfish delivers. It’s something that must be experienced.
Sunfish is the only kayak operator that takes kayakers to the most advantageous side of the island, based on wind and current conditions, assists them onto their kayaks easily with the help of the ingenious dive platform, and then follows at a distance. When the day is done, Sunfish is close at hand to retrieve the kayakers and take them on a pleasurable cruise back to home base at Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard.
One need only watch the video of a typical tour on the website and read the many rave reviews on Yelp to understand the shear uniqueness and popularity of this adventure.
The sale includes an estimated $50,000 in equipment and business tools including:
Additionally, the strategically-located slip is transferable. Channel Islands Harbor is the shortest distance to the Channel Islands of all the marinas in southern California.
