Designed by Kim Holman, built by his brother Jack at his Upham’s Boatyard, Brixham, Devon in 1965.
A very successful design with excellent sea-keeping ability, a good passage-maker with a good turn of speed.
The North Sea 24 was a well received design, competitive with the Viking from Holman’s great contemporary, Alan Buchanan and is sometimes described as a big sister to the better-known Twister.
Planked in 1” mahogany, carvel laid, caulked and payed.
Frames: Canadian Rock Elm steamed timbers, heavier section in way of the mast.
Heavy beam shelf with clamp below in way of the mast.
Fastenings: All copper nails and roves.
Deck: 10mm marine ply, sheathed and painted. Laminated deck beams in way of the mast.
Stainless steel stemhead fitting with double chain rollers carries the fore stay.
Chromed mushroom vent behind the stem
Centre ally alloy cleat and teak bar cleats either side to take mooring warps.
Gas bottle locker on the aft deck.

Varnished teak toe rails.
Stainless steel pull-pit, push-pit and stanchions. The pull-pit incorporates crutches to take twin spinnaker poles.

Deep teak coamings. Bridge deck. Seat lockers each side with scrubbed teak lids.

Steering.Transom-hung rudder. Low level tiller through an aperture in the transom makes for a comfortable helming position. More stowage under the aft deck.
Rig
Masthead bermudian sloop rig on oval section, alluminium mast stepped in a galvanised shoe on the coach-roof.
Single spreaders. Lazy inner fore stay.
Stainless steel rigging with Norseman terminals to internal stainless steel chain plates. Twin lowers, twin standing back-stays to the quarters. Fore stay with roller reefing gear.
Heavy section track on the forward face of the mast with twin spin pole cars.
Recent Selden alloy boom with Jiffy Reef system. Sheets to track on aft cock-pit coaming with tufnol blocks fitted with jammers.
Kicker on tackle, tufnol blocks with jammer.
Headsail sheets through cars on a toe rail track back to cock-pit sheet winches.

Heads compartment to port. Lavac sea toilet. Plastic folding hand basin unit on the bulkhead drains into the wc. Cubby-hole stowage under the side deck.
