'Rosita' was built as 'Taiko' for the Ocean Youth Club, which is now the Ocean Youth Trust. She was designed by Robert Clark and is number five of nine. This ocean going yacht has classic lines and generous accommodation. Her original purpose was to provide sail training for up to twelve trainees under the age of 24 with a crew of six. Until recently she held a category 0 licence for anywhere in the world with twelve passengers and four crew.
During her working life with the Ocean Youth Club she was based in Scotland and was navigated around the Scottish Islands. She competed in the 1979 Fastnet Race in a special class with all the other eight Robert Clark ketches. All nine completed the race unscathed. 'Rosita' is classified as a tall ship and has taken part in a number of tall ship races.
Her current owner has completed numerous cross channel trips to French ports and the Channel Islands. In 2002 she went to the Baltic via the Kiel canal visiting Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Heligoland. During 2004 she visited Spain, Portugal, Madeira, the Salvagem Islands and arrived in the Canary Islands to participate in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. She made the crossing from Gran Canaria to St Lucia with a crew of 10. Over the following years she visited the Windward Islands from St Trinidad in the south to St Kitts in the north. She has also been from Antigua to the Azores with a crew of four and completed the Atlantic circuit from Horta in the Azores to Shoreham with a crew of seven. This included three teenage boys - a character building experience.
'Rosita' has been based in Eastbourne and Shoreham since her return to the UK.
