The FOLKES 39 is a strong, successful and proven offshore yacht. It blends the use of steel and epoxies complete with a mahogany wood interior to give a superior strength and safety margin available in few other vessels. It is no secret to commercial vessel owners that no other material will as unaffected by ultra-violet sunlight or continual hard use demanded of a round the clock all year operation. The unique hull and deck design offers outstanding performance under sail or power. The multi chine construction provides a high initial stability, giving her stiffness which greatly contributes to all around sailing ability. Speeds under power will be in the 6 knot range.
The spar and standing rigging are designed to be powerful yet simple enough for one person to handle. The cutter rig with high cut headsails makes for excellent visibility. She has been designed to sail under main alone and is easily reefed so to be sailed safely in adverse conditions.
ARCTIC WANDERER has sailed across the Pacific, through the Northwest Passage (Alaska to Greenland and Iceland and back to the East Coast), all by one person.
