This, one owner from new, Moody 58 Custom Sloop 'Ardent Spirit' was designed by Bill Dixon and built in 1986 by A.H. Moody & Sons at their yard in Bursledon, England as the first of a series. Four were built.
Under the name 'Kindred Spirit' she was sailed across the Atlantic for the Annapolis and Ft. Lauderdale Boat Shows in the fall of 1986. She was then sailed back to England for the 1987 London Boat Show and received excellent reviews in yachting magazines on both sides of the Atlantic.
She was purchased from Moody by Dr. and Mrs Beiser in January 1988 who renamed her 'Ardent Spirit' and a few years later had her hull color changed from white to black.
A great many modifications were carried out at Moody's yard -- for instance, electric winches, Maxprop feathering propeller, watermaker, radar, SSB radiotelephone, and a new mainsail with full-length battens and lazy jacks were all added, the lifelines and pulpits were raised, the bow fitting was rebuilt to take a larger anchor and the refrigeration system was improved.
Later additions include a better generator and watermaker, supplementary AC refrigeration compressor, electric jib furler and manual forestaysail furler, new opening portlights at the forward end of the saloon, a lazy bag for the mainsail, and a large fiberglass-bottom inflatable dinghy that stows in chocks on the foredeck and is raised and lowered with an electric winch.
More recently new North Sails, electric toilets and a bow thruster were installed.
'Ardent Spirit' has never raced or chartered, normally cruised by owners alone.
Unlike most modern yachts which are designed for boat shows rather than sailing, ARDENT SPIRIT has a build standard, specification and sea keeping qualities which make her better than more recent boats.

My wife and I have based Ardent Spirit in Croatia since 2002. The marina is in a sheltered cove with most of the berths at pontoons and so easy of access, Security is good with personnel on duty at all times. A call from an entering boat via VHF or mobile phone to the harbormaster will lead to being met at its berth by two attendants to help in tying it up. The marina has an adequate grocery and a fruit-and vegetable stand, a chandlery, and a reasonably good restaurant. There is WiFi.
Next to the marina is an excellent boatyard which has skilled craftsmen, most of whom speak English, in all departments. We have been very pleased with the work of the yard, both in regular maintenance and in installing new equipment such as the bow thruster on Ardent Spirit.
We normally spend June, July, and August each year living on Ardent Spirit and cruising in the Adriatic and elsewhere in the Mediterranean. The boat is stored ashore for the rest of the time. No work is done on the boat when we are away so that nobody turns on the wrong switches or valves. When we arrive, the boat is put in the water and washed and, where appropriate, polished and waxed. Any routine maintenance not done when the boat was laid up is taken care of then. The sails are taken off the boat before it is laid up by a team from North Sails who have a loft not far away. The sails are taken to the loft to be washed, inspected and repaired if needed, and stored until our arrival when they are returned to the boat and installed by sailmakers from North.
Regarding costs, the marina and yard together charge EUR 10,500 per year to keep the boat in the marina in the season and on land the rest of the time. This includes water and electricity. Last winter North charged EUR 636 for its services, The boat is insured for EUR 360,000 (deductible EUR 4,000) with third-party cover for EUR 8,000,000. The current premium is EUR 3,920; of course, it would be lower if the agreed value of the boat were lower. The coat of maintenance varies with the work done in a given year (for instance, the bottom is antifouled every two years) but averages a few thousand euros per year.
As for sailing Ardent Spirit short-handed, for coastwise cruises my wife and I (we are now both 85 years old) have always easily managed Ardent Spirit by ourselves. Sometimes children, grandchildren, or friends are with us for two weeks or so at a time, and on passages that involve more than two nights out we try to have company so that nobody gets tired. We have made many passages by ourselves from our place in the south of France to the eastern Mediterranean and back. The boat has an efficient autopilot, electric winches for the jib sheets, main halyard, reefing lines, and the spinnaker halyard (which we use to transfer the dinghy to and from the water). There is an electric furler for the jib and a manual furler for the forestaysail . The bow thruster makes maneuvering in tight spaces and holding the bow into the wind when dropping the mainsail no trouble at all. When tying up in port, the bow line goes to a drum on the electric windlass and the stern line goes to an electric sheet winch next to the helmsman so old folks like us have plenty of power at our fingertips.
Ardent Spirit is comfortable at sea and in port. The cockpit is well protected by a large spray hood and a Bimini that has removable sides that keep the sun out but let air in. The stern platform with a swimming ladder and a freshwater shower is reached by an opening gate in the after pulpit and is most welcome when at anchor. We have sailed Ardent Spirit, our seventh boat, for 28 years and will miss her greatly.
