Sovereign is a 1986 FRESH WATER only Nauticat 36. This boat is being offered by her second owner of 19 years. With her 90hp Ford Lehman diesel engine she performs as a true motorsailor. The interior layout plan is the optional plan B with a large double aft berth and separate head in the master cabin. Her Ketch rig, dual steering stations, large pilot house with opening sun roof make this model quite unique and would make a fantastic option for either a live aboard couple or sailor that wishes to complete the loop. Economical to operate with accommodations for two couples make this a vessel to consider. Sovereign has now been hauled out for the off season.
All hand laminated GRP construction with layers of mat and woven roving. Scantling as approved by Lloyd's Register of Shipping. A system of longitudinal stringers and transverse floors is incorporated in appropriate areas. All bulkheads are teak faced marine plywood. Engine bed of fiberglass with steel plates. Iron ballast keel (6800 lbs) is fitted internally and encapsulated with GRP.
The deck is of hand laminated GRP Construction with teak deck overlay. Pilothouse doors and overhead hatch trim of teak. Windows are of toughened glass with rubber frames. Handrail of teak with stanchions of stainless steel. Boarding gates port, starboard and includes the aft optional gate. Four heavy duty chocks and four heavy duty cleats. Stainless steel stem fitting and teak and stainless bow sprit. Fixed in the mold laminated teak covered benches on aft deck with storage bases form the aft cockpit.
The engine is a Ford Lehman four-cylinder diesel developing 90 hp at 2600 rpm. The Borg-Warner CR-71 hydraulic gear box provides 2. 1:1 reduction. Engine is fresh water cooled and the exhaust system is of a water jacket-lift type. The propeller shaft seings a 22" X 16" 3 blade bronze propeller through heavy duty bronze bushings completed with lubrication system. Cathodic protection on all underwater fittings. Zinc anode. Original Fuel tanks were replaced with two 40 gallon aluminum tanks carried on each sided of engine room. Each has a side deck fill. Cruising range estimated at 325 miles at 8 knots. There was also added a stainless steel exhaust loop to prevent chance of back flooding. Dual Racor Fuel filter system. Engine controls provided at each steering station. Full instrumentation at lower helm. The steering system is hydraulic with dual station controls.
Bronze seacocks are provided on all thru-hull fittings below the water line. Fresh water tank of 108 US gallons with deck fill. Pressure water system. Double stainless steel sink in galley, sinks in both heads, and a propane water heater. Two manual marine toilets. Electric bilge pump.
Construction of the yacht throughout employs the use of varnished solid teak or teak plywood except for the light colored laminate surfaces of the pantry and toilets. The joinery is finished according to high yacht building standards. The floor boards are of teak-faced plywood.
The forecabin -v-berth with storage shelves port and starboard and storage beneath. A hanging locker on portside. A sliding door provides complete privacy. One headlight. Reading lights above both berths. An aluminum frame hatch provides ventilation and light.
In the salon the large U-shaped settee/dinette provides comfortable seating for up to six persons and is convertible to a luxurious double berth. Cabinetry with bar locker with bottle rack. bookshelf and storage. Large storage compartments under seats and under the steps of the pilothouse. Galley features a 3 burner propane stove with oven, gimbaled, double stainless sinks, and refrigerator. Cabinets for dishes, cooking utensils etc. Drawers for cutlery etc. Large worktops on both sides of the stove, cutting board. Hatches above the stove and indirect 12volt lighting.
The large aft cabin is completely private with en-suite head compartment. There is the optional port side aft facing double berth. There are four opening ports and two fixed ports on transom to add light and ventilation.
The pilothouse provides an inside steering station with excellent all round vision through the toughened glass windows and a complete command center with full instrumentation. A full sized navigation chart table with storage under a hinged lid is port of the steering wheel. The engine controls, compass, depth sounder and speed and distance log are conveniently situated. Ventilation is provided by a large overhead sliding sun roof hatch and the two sliding cabin doors. A L-shaped settee to port and a seat to starboard both have tables and make this area a pleasant entertaining area. The spacer on the port side converts the settee to a pilot berth. Plenty of storage under the settees. Two lockers. Hanging locker on starboard side of stairway to aft cabin. NOTE: Added air conditioning unit to pilothouse.
