Scarecrow is a well maintained example of the most popular 30 foot sailboat ever produced. From 1974 to 1997 more than 6,400 were built. This MkII version was introduced in 1986. The most notable change is the modern "T" Cockpit. This boat features the Tall Rig, extending the mast height by 2' , and the Wing Keel, drawing only 3' 10", first introduced in 1988, making it very desirable for coastal cruising in the Northeast and well suited to go South on the ICW.
The accommodations were so well conceived that they remained virtually unchanged for the full production run. There is an ample Vee Berth forward followed by a port side head and shower and starboard side hanging locker. The Main Saloon features an L-shaped dinette to port with a large table that folds out of the way against the forward bulkhead (see photo). Next there is a good sized Galley to port and Navigation Station to starboard. Aft to starboard there is a quarter berth that Catalina claims to be a double but half of it is under the cockpit with only about 14" of overhead clearance. For the purpose of this listing, it is shown as a single berth adding up to a total "sleeps" of six adults.
Datamarine Speed/Distance, Apparent Wind, and Depth instruments are mounted on the cockpit bulkhead. A new Horizon Intrepid VHF is mounted at the Nav Station with a Command Mic at the helm.
Boat comes with a "boom tent" style winter cover that covers the topsides down to the waterline.
The fully battened main sail was replaced in 2011 (with lazy jacks still in the box!) and the Dodger and Bimini were added the same year.
