Currently stored "on the hard" at a do it yourself or full service marina in Southeast Florida.

The North Island Marine 33 was designed by Robert Day, and built in Portsmouth, R.I., for extended cruising. Reviewed in Cruising World in March,1987, this handsome and practical steel cruiser fits "the serious offshore sailor who wants comfort and security without sacrificing performance." The boat has a healthy beam tapered to a fine bow and pleasing transom. The underbody, with a long fin and large skeg, attempts to combine the directional stability and rudder support of a full keel with the maneuverability of a fin and skeg form.

Dinghy stowage and a practical dodger were prerequisites in the deck design. A cockpit is just long enough for lounging and placed aft, with the mainsheet led to the transom where it will not tangle with the dodger or boom gallows. The outboard rudder is designed specifically for trim tab self steering installation. Her full length teak toe rail is fastened to pre-welded stainless steel brackets and stantion bases.

Below are safe, comfortable quarters for four, a galley that is easy to latch into for offshore use, athwartships-facing navigation station and provision of a fixed, well fastened table as a body hold. Enclosed head to starboard with basin and cabinets. Bulkheads, ceiling, and large area joiner work are Finnish marine birch plywood, varnished and using dark wood trim. Plenty of storage space is available under the berths, in cabinets outboard of the starboard berth, in a chest of drawers to port, in the head and in the wet and dry hanging lockers.

The cabin trunk is cold molded of teak and plywood with the edges next to the steel surfaces thoroughly pre-epoxied and set in Sikaflex. The coach roof is fiberglass covered multi-layered plywood.

Engine access is an important consideration in interior layout, and underway.  The Yanmar 30GM30E 27 HP is fresh water cooled and placed under the bridge deck with good access all around. It is coupled to a large 18" diameter propeller with 1" diameter shaft, cutlass bearing, Lasdrop stuffing box and Globe isolator.

Hull built in 1986 and completed & launched in 1988.

Seeing is believing. Plan a visit to see the North Island Marine 33 today.
