In 1985, Designer Tom Oberg, inspired by successful fast cruiser/sportfishing vessel designs, decided to build a fiberglass bassboat for himself Designer was Tom Oberg of design firm of Davis & Oberg. He made a number of modifications to an earlier 24' boat and drew the lines for the Oberg 27. In the summer of 1986 the first Oberg 27 with Kligecell cored hull as built Over the next few years, the sanding and fairing of a one-off hull took place a little at a time (being a "spare time" project for himself).
