Charles Wittholz (1918-1993), studied naval architecture at the University of Michigan and MIT, and before striking out on his own, worked for John Alden and Philip Rhodes. Among the more notable of his designs are the Dickerson 35 sailboat, the Cheoy Lee 52 and 53, and the Dyer Dhow (9’), designed in 1949, of which 6,500 were built. He designed a number of catboats and custom power trawlers.
NIZANICE (ex “APOLLO II” and “SARAH JEAN”) was a custom design and was built in Yale, Michigan in 1995 by Bedy & Sons Marine. She measures 72’ X 62’ X 19’10” X 5’6” and has a displacement of 180,000 lbs. Her hull is ¼” plate, cabin sides 3/16” and upper deck 1/8”.
NIZANICE has had only three owners. She spent her first five years on the Great Lakes, then moved to CT. She has been based out of Boston, MA for the past six years.
NIZANICE features two helms, one in the pilothouse and a second on the flybridge. She has a main salon measuring 15’ X 27’ and accommodations for six in three cabins, each sleeping two. She is powered by twin 300 hp Cummins diesels with under 350 hours on each. She also has two Kohler generators, one 8 KW, the other 20 KW. A bow thruster was added in 2003. A custom air conditioning/heating system was recently installed. She has a fuel capacity of 3,200 gallons and a water capacity of 1,200 gallons. She cruises comfortably between 9-11 knots and has a top speed of about 13 knots. Fuel consumption at cruising speed is reportedly 10 gallons per hour.
NIZANICE is a unique offering, with little on the market with which she may be compared. While designed and originally intended for use as a pleasure yacht, she has would also have great potential as a charter vessel or a liveaboard. She is currently in the water, fully commissioned and may be easily inspected. Price just reduced to encourage a quick sale.
