Believe’s interior joinery is beautifully hand crafted and finished in a two-part satin finished mahogany on the bulkheads, table tops and 38 plus lockers with louvered doors while vanity and galley countertops are of white Corian. Her upgraded upholstery is a medium blue fabric accented with a chevron accent pattern in near new condition. Accents include chrome LED reading lamps over settees and berths, overhead LED cabin lighting, indirect valance LED mood lighting, interior off-white Ocean Skysol pleated shades, and teak and holly soles with snap down beige carpet overlay.
Traditionally H-R, storage is abundant both behind and under the settees with outboard storage lockers surrounding all side areas. The bilges are smoothly finished out in a light gray service gel-coat and engineered to remain dry and cool for use as additional storage. Tasteful appointments also include Lewmar opening ports and large hatches with Oceanair Skyscreens providing generous amounts of light and fresh air when needed.
Believe’s layout includes a spacious forward “V” stateroom with two large single berths that with a filler insert converts to a huge double berth. There is ample storage under the berths for sails while overhead LED lights, chrome LED reading lights, and circulating fans also compliment this very comfortable cabin. A hanging locker with traditional louvered doors and a small dresser to starboard provides complete privacy and adjoins the forward head compartment.
Her side stateroom is to port with two 7 foot long single over/under berths with storage below and forward is a hanging locker while aft there is a mirrored vanity also with storage below. As with all of Believe’s climate controlled cabins and heads, they are heated by Webasto Air Top forced air heaters as well as air conditioned. Opposite to starboard, the large forward head compartment has a separate stall shower, Corian vanity top and mirrored sink, electric toilet, storage lockers, and clothes washer.
Moving aft with generous 6ft.6in. headroom, her salon is expansive and airy with a full length settee to starboard that has a lift up back that widens the settee to a large pilot berth with lee cloths. A large double leaf centerline mahogany table with hidden bottle storage inside becomes the dining area easily seating six people. The Lshaped settee runs alongside again with storage lockers under and surrounding the outboard side in usual Hallberg-Rassy tradition.
The J shaped seagoing galley is to starboard of the companionway making it convenient for both the chef and crew in the cockpit while opposite a full size forward facing navigation station with neatly executed electrical panels is outboard. A large freezer/fridge with dual thermostats is behind the navigation seat.
Moving aft through the companionway to port are large hanging lockers with louvered doors and inboard over the engine room doors is the watermaker locker. Below, the well lit engine room is an absolute engineer’s delight. All pumps and other mechanical equipment are skillfully installed and insulated for sound and thermal considerations which means when someone needs to get a drink of water at night the potable water pump cannot be heard.
Further aft, the 6ft.6in. companionway gives way to the expansive master aft cabin suite with an oversized double berth to starboard and a full sized single berth to port separated between with a small dressing seat. Once again, storage lockers surround the outboard sides with a hanging locker and a mirrored vanity and a large head compartment with a separate stall shower, mirrored vanity, and an electric toilet. Opening ports and hatches provide excellent ventilation while both natural and LED lighting overhead along with LED reading lamps provide added lighting which provides an open and airy feeling throughout.
The J shaped sea-going galley is a shipboard gourmet’s delight. It’s convenient location near the companionway to starboard allows easy serving to the cockpit or the salon dining table The island portion of the galley comfortably braces the chef making food prep safe and easy in a seaway without the need for a safety harness. There are generous storage lockers surrounding the sink and stove for galleyware while sliding mahogany panel doors outboard hide the microwave. A set of 5 drawers with a cutting board provide silverware, utensils, and miscellaneous storage. The fridge locker is quite deep with plenty of cold storage and is next to the sink on the aft bulkhead.
Hallberg-Rassy utilizes only the highest quality osmosis resistant isophtalic gelcoat and isophtalic resins along with various types of fiberglass cloth are used in the hull’s solid hand laid fibreglass layup schedule below the waterline. The underbody is also double coated with a two component primer to resist osmosis with antifouling paint applied on top.
Inside the hull, heavy fiberglass transverse and longitudinal stringers are finished out smoothly in a light grey color gelcoat to provide additional clean and dry storage in the engineered bilge areas. This provides a perfect environment for those extra provisions that need to remain cool or simply for extra storage.
Also, the hull layup transitions above the waterline with a layer of Divinylcell insulating fiberglass panels forming a thermal barrier to the inside of the boat to prevent condensation, mildew, and mold. In addition, the inside of the hull is lined with mahogany battens offset to the hull with scantlings that surround the interior of the hull and provide additional airflow throughout the entire interior of the boat.
The keel ballast is lead with antimony with high grade stainless steel keel bolts. The rudder blade is of fiberglass with an internal heavy stainless steel frame webbing attached to the 80mm stainless steel rudder post. The rudder is skeg hung on extra heavy cast bronze pintels and gudgeons. A heavy integral rub rail is built into the hull and fitted with stainess steel strikes just above the blue sheer stripe. Her hull color is white with royal blue sheer and boot stripes; her teak decks are in very good condition and recently brightened.
The deck and cabin top layup schedule includes the same high quality materials of hand laid fiberglass with additional reinforcement in areas of additional loads. The same coring method is used as in the above waterline sections of the hull to ensure against humidity, heat, and cold being controlled and resistant to mildew and mold.
The hull to deck joint is glassed over solid and forms a low and safe bulwark with a heavy teak cap rail creating one large integral shell. The main bulkheads are also tabbed and glassed in place before any interior joinery, machinery, tankage, etc. is lowered through the companionway below. This facilitates and ensures an owner in the future of being able to add or remove any below deck item such as a water tank. There are 13 ports, twelve open and one fixed, seven opening skylights and four dorade ventilators for generous amounts of light and ventilation throughout the yacht.
Her anchor locker forward is self-draining with a watertight bulkhead and includes a shelf with a divider for two anchor rodes with additional space for fenders and lines. To starboard, the self-draining propane locker is fitted with two 10# aluminum propane tanks and aft a large self-draining lazarette with double hatches that provide storage for lines, fenders, etc.. The cockpit also has a very large and deep locker to starboard with a built in hatch board storage rack and is also suitable for sails, safety gear, etc.. The deck and cockpit have six scuppers that drain overboard below the waterline to prevent hull staining.
Believe’s teak decks are of the highest quality Bangkok teak; overlaid, screwed and glued to sandwiched fiberglass and resin impregnated PVC foam panels. Structural reinforcements are added during the process in the deck to distribute additional loads and strengthen deck fittings ensuring against possible leaks. The clean deck arrangement with heavy bulwarks and scuppers ensure against possible leaks while providing ultimate safety and footing on the teak decks while underway in all weather conditions.
All sails are in near new or new condition
Furling mainsail: North Radian Dacron (New 2016)
Working jib: Elvstrom Offshore 530sq. ft. w/E-foam
Staysail: UK (Ulmer Kolius)
Oversized stainless steel wire rigging with a removable cutter stay and running backstays for heavy weather sailing that neatly parks when not in use at the base of the mast. The anodized high alloy aluminum mast is stepped on a base on the coach roof directly over a reinforced bulkhead with a solid laminated mahogany compression post that distributes all loads to the built-in fiberglass stringer system and keel... a proven system which eliminates water intrusion below deck.
Believe's 105hp Yanmar auxiliary diesel engine was selected after careful testing by Hallberg-Rassy over other brands for it's ability to deliver a higher torque curve at lesser RPMs to meet the demands of the yacht's hydraulic systems. This proven long life diesel has operated flawlessly while receiving professional maintenance including regular oil changes. Her 7.5kw Panda generator w/only 150hrs. has also operated flawlessly since new and regularly serviced.
Believe's electrical system was engineered and equipped for World cruising having the ability of all her electrical systems, appliances and equipment to operate on either 60hzAC or 50hzAC electrical power sources which can otherwise be a challenge particularly when cruising island in the Caribbean.
The engine room is an engineer's delight where attention to detail is paramount. The insulated doors are easily removed and it's well lighted with good accessibility. Whenever possible, all systems with pumps and motors are located where they too are accessible and mounted so they are vibration and sound isolated yet allowed to "breathe" fresh air drawn in so the operating temperatures are no higher than 70 degrees celsius (~160F).
The pressurized fresh water system is fed through a pressurized expansion tank to a carbon filter and then distributed with a multi-port manifold which distributes potable water equally to each individual fixture that equalizes pressure and volume throughout the boat preventing the possibility of scalding or chilling water.
A thermostatic controlled central heating system consists of two Webasto 3000 Airtop automatic diesel heaters where warm air is ducted to each cabin and head compartment for chilly evenings or cool climate sailing. A separate air conditioning system driven by two MarineAir Vector series low current drain A/C units are also ducted though out the yacht.
All systems are conveniently located for servicing whether it is a sea strainer or oil changing system as well as many other added engineering features that make this yacht stand apart from others.
With over 20 years as the previous Southeast US importer for Hallberg-Rassy Yachts, it is always a pleasure to represent a preowned HR that I have known from before it's build completion.
During this time, I became increasingly convinced that HR has a commitment to excel in the engineering and building of fine yachts which have the ability to confidently allow an owner to live their dream while taking them anywhere safely and reliably.
Not only has the attention to detail been hidden in each yacht, but there has been an unspoken commitment to complete the building of every boat "on time every time".
