"Being on the water is in my blood. I started at an early age in a runabout sailboat on Cape Cod. As an adult I started with the sailfish, then moved to a Pearson Triton, a Mason 32 sailboat and then a Mason 44 sailboat. When I got into my mid 60s I sold the Mason and started thinking how I was going to stay involved in boating and beautiful Penobscot Bay, Maine. The Downeast design hull appeal to me for these waters. I had known the builder, Kevin Alley, for many years. We spoke together about my thoughts and I decided that he would be the man to build my dream boat. The hull was ordered from Calvin Beal, incidentally Calvin Beal is Kevin Alley’s uncle. Then Kevin and I, through constant contact by phone and when I was in Maine in the summer time, put together her plans. Kevin spent 2 1/2 years building the boat and in early July 2006 we had the launch and the christening of Van Go. It was love, and much pride, at first sight. My wife and four children spent many happy years enjoying her. I now live in Virginia and Maine was a summer home and escape. The Van Go has had loving care but at age 86 it is now time to sell and pass on this wonderful craft on to the next loving boat buyer who will appreciate the joy in owning it." ~ Original/Current Owner of Van Go
