Cruisers Yachts
This all-American boat builder started out in 1904 as Thompson Brothers Boat Manufacturing, a family-owned business in Wisconsin that specialized in wooden lapstrake runabouts. The Thompson family built a solid business and reputable boats, up until 1979 when someone other than a Thompson ran the operation. By this time, the company had evolved from a builder of wooden boats to a manufacturer of fiberglass cruisers and sportboats.
Ownership changed hands a few times, along with the name of the company, but the business found solid footing again in the early 1990s, when K.C. Stock, who had been born and raised in Oconto, WI, recognized its potential for growth. His company, KCS International Inc., bought the builder, changed the name to Cruisers Yachts and invested in its future.
Today, Cruisers Yachts is one of the country’s most popular builders of midsize and luxury family cruisers. The sport boat lineup ranges from 20 to 32 feet, with cuddy cabins, bowriders, and express models in the mix. The yacht range runs from 31 to 54 feet. Cruisers designs and builds to modern standards and embraces new technologies in its gas and diesel-powered models; it was one of the first American builders to incorporate pod drives into its line of luxury cruisers.
