Ketch boats
A ketch is a specific type of sailing rig characterized by the arrangement and size of the masts and sails. These are two-masted vessels that include a mizzenmast and a larger main mast, with a sloop-like jib. Ketches are typically over 40 feet in length, simply due to a need for significant power in a manageable size. The ketch also lends itself to multiple options for various situations and weather conditions, making it a versatile option that performs in all conditions. This is one of the more flexible.
How are Ketches built?
Sailboats are typically made of sturdy, high-quality wood and built by hand. The wood planks are glued and pressed together to create the form of the hull, and then the interior decking pieces and structural supports are added. Once the boat has been constructed, the masts will be added to the final design and then the ketch rigs can be strung up on the masts of the boat. Since ketches are typically larger boats, they may require more time or builders than smaller sailboats being constructed by hand. Some high-end models may have wind generators mounted on the mizzenmast, as well.
