Cascade Yachts are built in Portland OR and is known as pioneers dating back to 1954. In 1960 (as hull #15 was sold), a corporation was formed under the name of Yacht Constructors.  Their first build was a 34-foot sloop called “Vigilant” designed by the then well-known Philadelphia Naval Architect Frederick Geiger. The first 5 were launched by the original 5 founders who called the class “Chinook” and began winning local races and turning heads in the press world. In ’57 the designs were introduced to Yachting Magazine who created a 3-page spread in their publication. They built 70 of this design which make them arguably the first builders of fiberglass sailboats. Later, Robert A. Smith, a former S&S designer, created the Cascade 23, 24, 27, 29, 36 and 42. In 1989, Yacht Constructors was sold to the new owners (Hans & Irene Geerling) who renamed it Cascade  Yachts. At this point there were so many boats produced that they started showing up on the used market. Back then boats were built much heavier than today and the Cascade Yachts were considered to be “bullet proof” when the test results of shooting .45 slugs were repelled by the hull. Over the years, they have proven to suffer little damage after falling off trailers onto roads at highway speeds, dropped by hoisting slings or submerged in a mudslide. The company went on to produce pilot houses, trawlers, mini-tugs as well as sailboats. The Cascade cruisers (or racers) can be identified by their hand lay-up of construction of roving and cloth wetted out with resin of which excess is squeegeed out. The result is an isothalic resin content of 50% in comparison to that of a chopper gun constructed hull which has 70%. Chopper gun methods reduce construction costs, do not support the quality of a hand laid hull. Time has proven the design and the process on which a Cascade is built. Many races have been won and many circumnavigations have been realized. The USCG Documented Cascade 36 “Najimi” is described as a cruiser/racer that sails like a dream. The Cascade vessels were produced on a somewhat custom basis with similar hulls, but often there were variations on interior layouts to suit individual owners, so no two boats of the same size are exactly alike. She has a deck-stepped double-spreader Sitka Spruce mast & boom – masthead sloop.  Najimi has a very large cockpit (seats 8) with deep, generous storage in 3 lockers. There is a lot of nice unusual amount of storage throughout for cruising. There are lots of storage beneath berths, cabinets, drawers, etc. The interior is roomy and bright with lots of headroom – all contributing to comfortable living and sleeping and eating accommodations for up to 6. Large windows at the galley (port & starboard) along with many opening ports, provide an excellent view outside and good cross ventilation. There have been lots of recent upgrades and the last two owners have been diligent keeping this boat in good condition. The interior & masts have been recently varnished with a Signature Finish that lasts years. The engine runs flawlessly after her rebuild. The sails with the exception of the spinnaker are less than 6 years old.
