For Sale, 1987 Catalina 36 tall rig, fin keel, spade rudder, Universal 25XP diesel power in College Park, Long Island, New York.
Here is a nicely maintained, clean, fast cruiser which has been studiously upgraded for the last twelve years by a knowledgeable owner who clearly believes in perfection.
This Frank Butler design is a robust and able family cruiser which is not embarrassed on the race course. A wheel helm dominates the spacious cockpit. Easily singlehanded, all trim lines and halyards lead aft to the cockpit. The tall rig, masthead sloop rig, gives this relatively beamy vessel the extra sail area to make light air sailing interesting and even exciting. The fin keel and spade rudder allow for good maneuverability in tight marinas. Running rigging is in good shape, sails are Dacron and also in good shape.
Below you are immersed in a world of custom teak cabinetry and a teak and holly sole. The generous U-shaped galley to port sports a gleaming CNG two burner stove and oven, large centerline stainless steel sink and a spacious top loading refrigerator, plenty of counter space and generous storage. The traditional saloon is not so traditional. Port side has a typical dinette with tight seating for six, and which converts to a double berth. Starboard side has a functional navigation station, and an additional two person dinette which also turns into a single berth. Custom teak cabinetry all around, this is a very cozy living area. Also to port is a full head with electric head, sink with hot and cold water, and a separate stand up shower. The forward stateroom has built in cabinetry and a comfortable double v-berth. Finally, the aft stateroom extends the full width underneath the cockpit with a magnificent double berth with a bench and even a mirror.
Here is a fine turnkey sailing yacht ready to take you and your family on a summer sailing adventure. This is a comfortable coastal cruiser with the ability to dead head to Penobscot Bay or gunkhole the Elizabeth Islands. Spend your weekends sailing the legendary ports of Long Island, this boat can do it all.

This boat was an obsession to me and I spared no expense in keeping her up over the years.
Most of the above replacements and additions were made as improvements to Polaris rather than as a result of failure. I never waited until a breakdown occurred. These were preemptive in order to keep her in Bristol condition both mechanical and to the eye. She is comfortable, seaworthy, and safe to be aboard. ALL improvements were completed by ME except for the engine reconditioning which was done by a trusted diesel mechanic.
She is ready to go into the water. There is nothing needed to start your 2021 boating season. I will gladly accompany you as often as needed to get you going in the spring in order to get you familiar with all systems.
