Ocean Light is a one-of-a-kind 71 foot vintage wooden sailboat that was custom-built in Ladysmith – a small town on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. She was set for construction in 1987 and after two years, set sail for her first voyage in 1989.
The vessel was built to charter the northern Canadian intercoastal waterways and was a mothership for kayak tours throughout the Queen Charlotte Islands. She hosted weekly excursions with a proven safety record. And, her beauty did not go unnoticed.
Ocean Light was featured in the 2001 Motion Picture: 3000 Miles to Graceland featuring Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner and Courteney Cox.
Years later, her ownership changed hands, and Ocean Light was sailed from Canada down to Mexico. After spending some time as a recreational craft, she was purchased and converted for the leisure industry.
Ocean Light went through an extensive refit to bring her back to her original grace as a charter boat. Some of the major restorations included a new mast and sails with an easy roller furling systems, and tall hand rails around the perimeter of the ship to ensure the safety of its passengers.
The vessel is constructed of Douglas Fir with carvel planking running athwartship from stem to stern. The wooden deck is large and comfortable for guests of all walks of life, and the large cockpit and spacious foredeck are perfect for mingling with friends and family. The craftsmanship below deck is also admired by sailing enthusiasts from around the world.
