This iconic super passage-making sloop is now for sale.

"Shaman" is an exceptional sailing yacht respected throughout the yachting community.

With her pre preg carbon composite hull, deck and superstructure, carbon mast, carbon boom and fully retractable bow pole, lifting keel and touch screen controlled water ballast and an exceptional Andrew Winch designed veneer on honeycomb interior she complements the high quality weight saving philosophy employed throughout her.

Designed by Bill Tripp first as a 'sailing' yacht dictated to the balance of two important factors to maximise performance, speed and ease of handling. A strong, light construction system utilising advanced materials and techniques was used to keep the displacement to a minimum.

In addition to her modern hull shape, features such as a carbon fibre rig, retractable spinnaker pole, water ballast and hydraulically lifting keel are incorporated in the design. These features allow for high stability giving greater sailing comfort. The retracting keel allows access to shallow waters without sacrificing the sailing characteristics. Draft is 2.3m or 3.92m.

The hull shape was developed with long water lines, high stability and low pitching moments for increased speed. The high stability comes partly from the hull shape and partly from the large bulb keel and water ballast.

The layout on deck incorporates a working cockpit aft with twin wheels, winches and all sail controls. This allows all sailing acitivities to be located in this area keeping the rest of the deck free. The mainsheet is sheeted to an arch that allows free movement underneath, and structure for a sailing awning. The central cockpit interacts with the pilothouse, and has protected seating for eight to ten guests around the table.

The pilothouse offers full shelter from the elements yet also offers great visibility. There is a dining/lounging area to port which is comfortable for 8 or more guests. The navigation station is to stbd. The raised pilothouse creates space underneath for a full engine room, the main engine, generator and all systems enclosed. The pilothouse extends over the saloon to draw the area into the upper areas of the boat.

Stairs down access the lower saloon and library to stbd where an L shaped settee and coffee table provide seating to view the TV/DVD. The galley is opposite on the port side with crew/guest dinette forward of it.

Crew or guest accomodation fwd comprises a double cabin with ensuite head/shower to sbd and a double cabin to port with upper & lower single berths and head/shower compartment fwd. Access to the forepeak is through this head/shower compartment & watertight bulkhead.

The owners cabin is located aft with a centreline double berth which converts to a comfortable sea berth. The ensuite head/shower is on the port side and includes a lightweight jacuzzi tub. To stbd is a writing desk/computer station, aft of which is a sofa with a foot recess allowing it to be used as a sea berth. The companionway ladder accessing the aft cockpit is adjacent.

Forward of the owners suite are two double guest cabins with large single berths. The upper Pullman style berths, when recessed, blend with the raised panel finish of the interior joinery. The port cabin has a writing desk with extensive book shelves & video monitor. The stbd area has two berths and laundry and these cabins share a head/shower compartment.

The carbon boom is contoured to catch and contain the fully battened main when it is dropped or reefed. The boom is wide but tapered in width and depth, and it has a trough but is flat enough to walk on. The sail cover is in two halves that attach to the boom edges so that when the sail is lowered between the lazy jacks, it falls into the trough and the sail cover easily zips over the sail.

The foretriangle has twin headstays mounted one behind the other plus inside stay. The forward stay has a 130% genoa on a furler that is used for reaching, passage making, and upwind to 15 knots true. The next stay, two feet back, has a 95% jib for efficient upwind sailing that is safer and easier to tack and may be carried well up the breeze range. Further back there is the furling staysail for higher wind conditions.

"Shaman" is a true preformance passage-maker that regularly achieves 250 - 300 mile days offshore and speeds over 20 knots. Under power the 6 cylinder 300 hp Lugger diesel pushes Shaman at a cruising speed of 10 knots. This vessel has been maintained regardless of expense - extensive upgrades have been carried out and new gear fitted over the last 7 years.

"I wanted a boat with Grand Prix performance coupled with the requisite comfort and safety to take my wife and children around the world. 'Shaman' exceeded my expectations. She has expanded my vision of what can be achieved in a world-cruising sailing yacht" - Robert Johnson, Shaman's first owner.

'Shaman is the benchmark by which other yachts of this type are measured' - Peter Wilson, Project Manager/Director. Marine Consruction Management.

'Her interior is so artfully done that even the most experienced joiner would swear that every panel was made of solid timber' - Chuck Paine, in Yachting Magazine

'Below, 'Shaman' is a proper yacht in the old sense of the term' - Blue Water Sailing

'As a designer I am aware just how rare is the opportunity to create anything this close to perfection' - Chuck Paine, in Yachting Magazine.
