Accommodations
Accommodations The Sabre 402 is one of the best sailing boats that Sabre has built to date. And her interior is unique as well. The 402 features a very large forward stateroom with a large double berth, hanging lockers, drawers, cabinets and a vanity sink with mirror.
The main salon offers an “L” shaped settee to port that converts to a double berth with filler cushion. To starboard is a straight settee that can double as a sea berth. There is a large drop leaf centerline dining table.
The unique part of the 402 layout comes in the galley, aft head and aft cabin. Sabre moved the engine forward from it’s traditional location under the companionway to a more central location forward of the companionway and incorporated it into the galley. This allows for a large “center island” in the galley that houses the sinks and work space. The galley is a “U” shape that offers excellent work areas and a very secure galley under way.

Accommodations
The spacious interior of the Sabre 402 is light and airy and offers an excellent two stateroom layout. The forward stateroom has a 6'10" long "Island" berth, small settees P&S, vanity w/Corian counter top, hanging locker and shelves above the berth P&S. The main salon has a centerline drop leaf table, L-shaped settee to port that converts into a double berth, settee to starboard, storage behind settee backs, book shelves and cabinets above and outboard. The large galley is to port with excellent counter space and galley storage. Opposite to starboard is forward facing nav station, large aft head w/separate shower stall and access to the aft cabin. The aft cabin has a very large berth, hanging locker, small settee and full length cabinets outboard to port.
Galley
Spacious galley located on the port side mid-ship with polished double SS sinks, Top/front loading Refrigerator w/separate top loading Freezer with second freezer plate, Propane Stove, Microwave Oven. Large Corian counter top and excellent galley storage.
Layout
The main salon is impressive and takes full advantage of the 402's beam of 13' 4". Deep, comfortable settees are found port and starboard. The portside converts to a double berth to be used for occasional guests or as a sea berth while underway. The cenerline drop-leaf table can comfortably seat six adults at meal time making this the center of social activity on board.
Deep lockers outboard provide ample storage spaces. A large deck hatch, stainless steel opening ports, and large fixed portlights supply ventilation and light and add a sense of space to this salon.
Forward of the main salon is the master stateroom with its large centerline berth. This compartment offers many deep drawers and lockers for storage of your personal gear. A comfortable seat is located to port in front of the convenient vanity sink and mirror. A tall, cedar-lined hanging locker is found to starboard.
A large hatch overhead, two small hatches, and two stainless steel ports provide light and air to this comfortable space. Traditional ash hull ceilings provide the hull-side finish and a beautifully sculpted shelf runs above the perimeter of the berth. Stainless steel reading lights are provided port and starboard.
The galley of the SABRE 402 is a pleasure to work in, whether at the dock or under sail. The U-shaped space provides all the security needed to work here no matter what the conditions. Beautifully curved laminated wood fiddles prevent food from spilling onto the cabin sole. Lockers with louvered doors, hand-made dovetailed drawers, and clever storage spaces will easily house all the provisions that you bring along.
A double stainless steel sink with single lever mixing faucet is found on the centerline, above the engine compartment. Outboard and forward is the commodious ice box, with two top openings as well as a front opening door. The gimballed propane stove and oven is located aft and outboard.
The chart table aboard the SABRE 402 is large enough to accommodate today's sophisticated navigation electronics systems or to spread out your paper charts. The ship's AC and DC electrical systems are displayed and controlled from the custom electrical panel, and the ship's batteries are secured below the chart table seat for easy access and maintenance. This traditional style, forward facing chart table can truly be put to use under way unlike those of many of the SABRE 402's contemporaries.
The navigation table seat is a great place for socializing with the cook when meals are being prepared in the galley to port. Drawers below the table provide space for navigation tools, the SABRE tool tool kit and your yacht's spare parts.
The SABRE 402's interior layout proves that traditional designs are still the best when it comes to comfort and security underway and liveability at anchor or dockside.
The head compartment of the SABRE 402 is functional and easy to keep. A Corian countertop surrounds the sink and a fiberglass floorplan makes cleanups a breeze. For ventilation, there is a screened hatch overhead and an opening port outboard. Aft of the head is a fully enclosed shower stall with wet locker outboard. The head can be accessed in complete privacy through a reduced height door to the aft cabin.
The aft cabin of the SABRE 402 is spacious. For many owners it is a toss-up whether the aft or the forward cabin is the master stateroom. A wide double berth stretches aft and a full set of lockers and drawers provide storage. A bookcase faces aft on centerline and stainless steel reading lights are just where you would hope to find them. This is a very comfortable and convenient sea berth.
The design of the SABRE 402's cockpit enhances this area. Boats with large cockpit wells and "picnic tables" take volume away from the aft cabin, whereas the sensibly sized cockpit of the SABRE 402 leaves a big volume of space above the berth. The convenient passageway door door to the head is made possible by the design of the high bridge deck.
