Royal van Dam NORDIA 70 Performance Cruiser
The 21.35-metre Blue Eagle combines a Blue hull with an off-white superstructure to underline the yacht’s sporty and racy character. Her walnut and maple interior features generous headroom and accommodates eight people in considerable comfort in an owners’ stateroom aft, a Vip cabin and two guest suites, all with their own bathrooms. A nimble yacht with fine handling characteristics, Blue Eagle has a versatile sail plan, sharp steering response, intuitive controls and excellent ergonomics.
A Dutch built safe performance Cruiser ..
Construction main features
Hull and Construction
Aluminum hull and superstructure with encapsulated lead bulbous keel.
Nordia Van Dam has put great emphasis on weight reduction to enhance performance. Plate thicknesses are 18mm at the keel sole, 7mm for the keel side plates and 5mm for the superstructure and deck.
Teak laid decks.
Double helm positions with comfortable seating. Three spoke carbon fiber wheels from Jefa Steering that are connected to the quadrant by rods and universal joints. The port helm can be disconnected when using starboard. Practice has proven that this was not necessary.
Deck shower with hot & cold water Deck wash system fore and aft
Carbon fibre detachable bathing ladder
Carbon fibre Multiplex 4m detachable gangway
A Hydraulic transom folds down to create a sea level sun deck for chairs and sun mattress Helm bimini, cockpit bimini and Spray hood on stainless steel frame.
There are 6 stainless steel opening portholes on either side of the hull letting in plenty of daylight.
All Rondal Flush deck hatches with tinted Perspex. All hatches are fitted with blinds and mosquito screens.
Safety on and below deck is obviously a major concern for every owner and skipper, Nordia took care to fit many handrails, even in the cockpit table. For the seawater inlet, as for the waste water outlet, there is only one hull through. Reefing lines and halyards are coiled on the mast, rather than being concealed and taken aft into the cockpit. In this way any faults are detected quickly.
The main engine a Perkins Sabre M225TI Turbo diesel, is fitted out with a wet exhaust system with a Halyard lift silencer and water separator. This engine combined with a Amartech Variable pitch propeller with Quant controls at both helm stations.. guarantees safe docking and a longe range, cruising on the engine when necessary.
The engine room has added insulation and the outcome is impressive, particularly when sailing under power, as there is practically no vibration and an extremely low noise level.

Royal van Dam NORDIA 70 Blue Eagle Accommodation
INTERIOR and ACCOMMODATION
BLue Eagle has a very pleasant and easy to like interior. The color scheme of the warm deep leather upholstery with the beige imitation leather ceilings works really great with the walnut flooring and maple paneling and frames. The stitching on the sofas and seating is heavy leather stitching that gives it a sophisticated touch. The complete interior décor works very well together. The fittings and door handles are of brushed stainless steel.

Cabin layout / Walkthrough
Walkthrough.
From the cockpit we come down three steps to the light flooded upper deck salon. The large seating area on star board offers space for 6 people on the sofa and two on swiveling cup chairs that are built on the centerline. One can easily look outside from this position as the windows are on shoulder height.
On port side of the deck salon we find the two seated sofa in L shape, one seat looking forward and one looking to starboard. Forward of this L shaped sofa we have the two seated navigation bench and console that pops up and contains all navigation equipment. The navigator looks forward and has a half size chart table to work on.
There is a pop up TV located and built onto the bulkhead. The screen faces aft so everyone can enjoy the movies or TV that is presented through the Philips Home Theater equipment.
There is a 4 step staircase going down to the lower “ salon” where we have on port side the entrance to the queen size vip guest cabin with en-suite facilities. The en-suite bathroom has two doors and works also as a day head with the door facing the four step staircase. On the starboard side of this area we have two comfortable chairs, one facing aft and one facing inboard, with bookshelves covering a part of the wall.
The galley is half open and the work area is covered by a 140 cm high separation wall. This feature works very well and the mid-ships galley that is located low in the boat is great for cooking while out at sea. The 4 burner induction hob and all cupboards for crockery have fiddles. The washing machine and dryer are perfectly hidden behind a maple door.
Forward to port is where we find the second guest cabin with a queen size bed and a single Pullman above.
On starboard forward ither is a fourth guest / crew cabin with upper/lower berths, finished in exactly the same way as all other cabins.
The master suite is aft with a big king size bed on the center line. The mirror that faces aft becomes a TV screen when the TV is on. To starboard is a bench and to port a writing desk. The roomy en-suite bathroom is on port side with a stall shower.
All cabins are fitted out with opening hatches with blinds and mosquito screens, opening portholes, reading lights, CD player and DVD players. All cabins have lee cloths and plenty of cupboard space, all bathrooms have stall showers.
The engine room can be entered through a door in the galley. Nordia is known for a very high level of engineering and also Blue Eagle leaves nothing to wish for when one looks in the room. Manifolds are easy to get to, compressors easy to check and changing the main engine fuel filters is a simple task. This is build number 1085 and with 50 years of boat building few could teach the yard anything new. There is ample light in the engine room to work efficiently.
