Traditionally, jigs were used as the lifeboats, and tenders of the tall ships that sailed the seas from the 1700's until the 1950's. Although the jig served a practical purpose, it also had to create a strong first impression, as ultimately, this was the vessel that carried the captain to port.
The importance of the jig was reflected in its design. It had a hull that was slender for performance on water, and shallow for storrage on deck, away from the rigging. The jig also had a detachable mast, which was the length of the jig's hull. This allowed the mast to be stored in the jig when not in use.
The Tradewind Jig pays homage to this classic design. With room for 6-12 passengers, and a maximum speed of 6 knots, you can bring your friends and the whole family out for a wonderful day on the bay. The jig is constructed of fiberglass. It contains features including railings, a table top, a transom and benches, all of which can be built with mahogany, oak or teak. Life meets luxury onboard the Tradewind Jig.
