Yacht builder Astondoa celebrated its 100th anniversary with the launch of the Astondoa 110 Century (see Astondoa 110 Century marks 100th year for Spanish yard), and it keep the party going with the new 655 Coupe. Our reviewer Zuzana Prochazka had the chance to step aboard a 655 at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and liked what she saw - so much so, in fact, that she grabbed our videographer and shot this quick video tour.
The Astondoa 655 Coupe has two cabins with private heads, but since this is a semi-custom yacht, that can be adjusted to an owner’s taste. A third cabin can be added amidships, and there’s even a spot for crew’s quarters back aft under the sunpad. Most of the upper cabin is dedicated to the saloon, and the galley is on the lower level.
Power comes courtesy of a pair of Volvo IPS 1200’s, 900 HP diesels coupled to pod drives. Optional powerplants include MAN V8s or Caterpillar C1150s. Either way, performance is sporty for a yacht of this size with a cruise in the 25 knot range and a top-end in the low to mid 30s. Fuel capacity is a healthy 845 gallons, and at cruising speed, range should be 300 nautical miles.
Like other yachts in the Astondoa range, the 655 Coupe is fitted out for contemporary luxury and inside you’ll find lots of varnished woods, glass, and polished stainless-steel. One unique feature the 655 Coupe offers is its “rooftop area”. While this boat doesn’t have a flybridge, it does have stairs leading to the top of the hard-top. Climb up, and you’ll discover that the exterior of the hard-top is cushioned and has a back/head rest. Essentially, the entire top is a giant tanning pad.
