Description
“Thomas E. Colvin designed “Tamarack” Schooner
The S/V DEL VIENTO is a 1975 auxiliary sailing schooner with major re-fit in 2012!
Major re-fit done in 2012:
- Hull cleaned out and all aluminum sealed.

Interior was pained with epoxy.
aluthane primer, and two coats of epoxy paint.

Re-foamed all of the hull plates.

All interior wood was refinished and replaced.

Forward head bulkhead was moved aft a few
inches to allow space for an Origo alcohol stove with room for six one gallon can of alcohol.

New water tanks were built of plywood and epoxy and installed forward of the previous tanks.
- Previous water tankage area was made into under bunk storage.
- Installed composting toilet.

In the former starboard aft cabin hanging lockers: Shore power
isolation box, and a 3000 watt charger/inverter with two 115 volt outlet boxes.

Portside aft cabin hanging locker: space for 4 G2 batteries (since replaced by lithium.) and other storage for
tools, navigation equipment, etc.
- New 25 hp Beta Marine engine on new engine mounts.

Transferring fuel to the day tank allows monitoring fuel consumption since there is no fuel gauge.

Hull and Construction:
- Hull: The hull is made from welded aluminum, a durable and lightweight material that is resistant to corrosion. It has a urethane paint finish to protect against the elements.
- Deck: The deck is also made of aluminum, with an anti-skid surface in key areas for safety. It features a urethane paint finish.
- Keel: The vessel has an integral welded aluminum long keel, with internal lead ballast, offering stability and improved performance under sail. The keel is coated with anti-fouling paint for protection.
- Rudder: The rudder is constructed from welded aluminum and is attached to the keel with a stainless steel post. It is also protected with anti-fouling paint.
- Condition: The hull, keel, and rudder are in very good condition, with no corrosion or damage detected.
Exterior Layout:
- Deck Features:
- Del Viento has a large bowsprit at the front, which supports the anchor control system with a double roller system and chain locker.
- Lifelines: Aluminum tubular stanchions with synthetic fiber lifelines.
- Companionways: Two raised companionways for access to the interior.
- Aft Cockpit: The cockpit is spacious with seating and features a wheel for steering, navigation instruments, engine controls, and storage. Sail control lines are routed to the cockpit for easy handling.
- Safety Features: The deck includes safety handholds, adequate cleats for docking, and boarding gates on both sides.
Interior Layout:
- Salon: Located forward below deck, the salon has settee/berths that provide seating and additional storage. A large deck hatch ensures good ventilation and provides emergency egress.
- Head: The head (bathroom) is located on the starboard side and features a composting toilet.
- Galley: The galley is on the port side and includes a 2-burner marine alcohol stove, stainless steel sink, chest refrigerator, and plenty of storage and work surfaces.
- Aft Cabin: The aft cabin has settee/berths and ample storage. There are two companionways, one leading forward to the engine room and the other leading directly to the cockpit.
- Engine Room: Located below the forward companionway, it is well-insulated with easy access for maintenance.
- Ventilation: The interior is well-ventilated with opening ports, dorade vents, and hatches.
The interior is cozy and functional, with a well-equipped galley and ample sleeping space.
