BREAKING NEWS!!!

Recently, the seller of this classic blue water passage-maker, has taken delivery of his new Valiant 42 and now has reduced the asking price of his 1979 Valiant 40, “Equinox” to $49,500.00. UNQUESTIONABLY, this is one of the best values of a proven, iconic, Robert Perry designed offshore cruising yacht on the market today!!!  It is also one of the very few yachts of this era having had only two owners. "Equinox" is an, well equipped and maintained yacht making it an affordable, excellent choice for your planned future sailing adventures.

THIS IS A RARE, HIGHLY CUSTOMIZED VALIANT 40!!!!!

This Valiant 40 has proven offshore capabilities and was designed for blue water sailing. Naval Architect Bob Perry, has incorporated into this sturdy double ender, both seaworthiness and ample interior space that offers steady and comfortable cruising, and features the traditional or “CLASSIC” Valiant 40 layout. This is the layout, known WORLDWIDE as the look which made the Valiant 40 famous with sailors throughout the world and which has taken more sailors on circum-navigations, than any other production yacht. "EQUINOX” is a perfect example of a classic Perry offshore design, incorporating a tumble home stern, bulwarks, dorades, opening ports, oversize rigging and quality construction, the Valiant 40 is a modern classic. Performance has become synonymous with Valiant and is in no small way responsible for its success. SAIL Magazine selected the Valiant 40 as the ”Offshore Cruiser of the Decade”.

Sail Magazine wrote:  “The Valiant 40 is a fast, offshore yacht.  Her clean and efficient design gives her a remarkable ability to point high while footing fast and makes her safe, comfortable and exhilarating. She has a stable, easily driven hull powered by a close-winded, versatile rig.

Her hull features a modern split appendage, fin-keel and skeg-rudder combination. She has a graceful sheer rising to a flared bow and a salty, tumblehome canoe stern. Minimal overhangs fore and aft, coupled with canoe stern, contribute to a long-sailing length, with a bonus of increased space below decks. The bow flare is ample for a dry boat and it provides both a safe, workable foredeck and reserve buoyance to keep the bow from diving in a seaway.  Likewise, the stern parts a following sea in the same fashion as a “double-ender” while adding sufficient reserve buoyancy to keep the boat dry and reduce the chance of pooping.  There is also a moderate bustle development aft that increases the effective sailing length.

Without question, we feel that Valiant is the best-constructed production yacht in the United States, built for serious, appreciative yachtsmen. Valiant 40: THE ULTIMATE BLUEWATER PERFORMANCE CRUISER.”

She is a beautiful cutter capable of going anywhere in the world. She is fast, responsive and capable of living aboard in great comfort and eagerly awaiting a new owner to put her through her paces in the open  ocean….where she belongs!

We are pleased once again, to be involved with this VALIANT 40 - No one knows the history of this VALIANT 40  and Valiant Yachts, better! Her classic Valiant lines incorporate a tumble home stern, bulwarks, dorades, opening ports, oversize rigging and quality construction.  The Valiant 40 is a modern classic. Performance has become synonymous with Valiant and is in no small way responsible for its success.

Accomodations and Layout

This well traveled yacht, sleeps six people in accommodations with the CUSTOM single offset forward berth, main salon settees (port pulls out to a “double) and quarter berth cabin. Like all Valiant Yachts, the main salon settees and the quarter berth make excellent offshore sleeping quarters. The interior of the Valiant 40’ is dry, bright, comfortable and well ventilated with 9-screened opening ports, 4 large, opening hatches, a large companionway hatch and 3 dorades. All Valiants are styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations and finished in furniture quality teak.

Cabinetry and features throughout this beautifully designed yacht, far exceed the standard layout of this much sought after traditional, side entry Valiant, with the Captains quarters in the port double aft quarter berth. She is a famous “traditional layout” Valiant 40’ which has taken more sailors on circumnavigations, than any other yacht design ever built.

Custom galley cabinetry, fold up teak table, custom port single-berth V-berth with extensive cabinetry and stowage and other features of this beautiful yacht, mark the layout of a well thought out yacht, owned by a Coast Guard Officer.  The spacious, central main salon is open and inviting with large settees, providing for comfortable berths at sea, a wide sole and numerous stowage areas.  Featuring private accommodations for two couples in separate cabins, plus settee berths for additional.

Most  forward  and  aft  of  the chain locker, you will find the port-side, single berth with storage shelves to port and starboard and tremendous storage under the V-berth. There is a large opening hatch above the berth. The forward cabin is closed off by a teak door. Next aft to port is a large head, with ensuite shower with ample storage including, several lockers and cupboards. Ventilation is excellent, with opening port in head, plus an overhead dorade ventilator.

Directly across and to starboard are two very large, full length hanging lockers with bookshelves over. There is a screened opening port to starboard. All locker doors have louvered vents for air circulation.

Moving aft is the main salon which is located amidships with large comfortable settees to port and starboard, (ideal sea berths when on a passage) a custom bulkhead mounted, drop down teak table, for dining to port or which opens for a double, full salon dining table.  Outboard and above are custom cabinets with drawer on starboard and port side and bookshelves forward on both sides. There is a large opening hatch overhead and large opening ports. Storage is abundant, with large storage areas behind settees. Teak & holly sole throughout.

Aft of the main salon and to starboard is a proper offshore, forward facing navigation station and chart table with tremendous room for the full compliment of navigation and electronic equipment for easy use while navigating. The large nav table has a large storage locker under the desk top, a deep locker and outboard, room for the additional electronic navigation and communication equipment.

Just aft of the nav station and directly across from the galley are two huge lockers, one a pantry with custom pull-out storage bins which provides a tremendous amount of space for provisions, the other, a large, full length wet locker. There is a teak grate built into the teak and holly sole, at the bottom of the companionway, to catch water from wet gear. With the wet locker and teak draining grate, which drains to the bilge, all foul weather gear is kept aft and away from the main living quarters. All locker doors are ventilated.

Aft of the main salon and to port, is the classic “wrap around”  “U” shape configured, offshore safe galley, that will delight the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside. There is generous cabinet & counter space, 3 galley drawers, 2 lockers under the sink, 1 large deep stainless steel sink and 1 large shallow stainless steel sink, 3 burner S.S. Force 10 Propane stove with Oven and Broiler. Over the galley is a large opening hatch and an opening port for light and ventilation. Above the sinks, you will find a large custom teak cabinet with shelves. There are extensive lockers and storage, outboard over stove and under counter, also a pressure and manual fresh water system and huge provision locker. There is a large double well insulated ice box athwartship with separate top opening lids.

Next aft to port is the Captains aft cabin. There is a double berth, in the traditional Valiant layout, with massive storage under and dressing seat and a large clothes locker. The aft stateroom also has excellent ventilation provided by a screened overhead hatch and 2 opening ports.

There are 9 opening ports with screens and 4 opening deck hatches with screens, plus the companionway hatch and screened opening, which provides a tremendous amount of light and superior cross ventilation.  There are also 3 Stainless Steel dorade vents, one over the head, one over the chart table and one over the “V” berth.  Below deck ventilation far surpasses the standards in the industry.  This yacht incorporates beautiful teak and holly sole and a rich teak interior.

Below the water line, the hull shows a fine entry with a long cutaway forefoot followed by an efficient and modern keel section and a deep profile skeg hung rudder, just forward of a tapered stern section. This design combination readily separates the Valiant from other traditional yachts and offers ease of handling and lively performance.
