motorization
In 2006, during the journey from Scharendijke to Terneuzen, where as usual the ship went into winter storage, it had already become clear that the engine (a Yanmar Y8M) needed to be replaced. A Yanmar 2YM15- SD, a 13 hp 2-cylinder with sail drive. The installation required several adjustments to the engine compartment and was spread over a longer period, which was of no importance as the ship was not being used (see under ‘Restoration hull and keel’). It would eventually last until July 2014 before it could be sailed effectively, so that the number of hours of engine use until 2019.
Restoration hull, keel and standing rigging
After the ship was placed in the shed of the yacht yard in the autumn of 2006 Vermeulen, is there due to lack of time (and long holidays abroad) nothing has been done to it for 5 years (unless the necessary replacement of the engine). Until 2012, after a long period of doubt, it was decided to to proceed with a complete restoration of the interior, in order to years of comfortable and safe sailing. The underwater hull also had to be tackled and that is over a fairly long time period (spring 2012 - spring 2014) spread out. The hull below the waterline was sanded down on the original primer layer and the cast iron keel was sandblasted. Thereafter, the hull and keel were protected with the appropriate underlayers and the black antifouling applied. The hull above the waterline with the original gelcoat (which was never damaged and showed only a few scratches) thoroughly cleaned and mechanically polished. The original standing 7 mm rigging was completely replaced.
Interior restoration
During the years 2013-2015 the interior was completely renewed. This required the expansion of as many small and large wooden structures as possible (such as the square table, the card table and the kitchen cabinet). The remaining solid wooden parts were thoroughly sanded. The hull was completely stripped of the inner lining, cleaned of glue and foam rubber residues and then thoroughly sanded. The newly replaced windows were again disassembled. The originally brown colored polyester inner mold was sanded several times, unnecessary holes were closed and small imperfections were added here and there and damage repaired. The storage spaces under the benches were also cleaned up. Instrument panel and all electrics were disassembled, checked and, if necessary, adjusted or replaced. All woodwork, both loose and fixed, was varnished several times and the polyester inner mold received a finish in half after a number of primer layers glossy white. The storage spaces under the benches, the dog cage and the kitchen were treated with white buttock paint, as well as the sail box and the rear storage space in the cockpit. The cabin stairs were covered with pieces of gray treadmaster anti slip. Meanwhile, in the original space of the wardrobe behind the toilet a plastic waste water tank built in, and came as a replacement in the forecastle on the port side against the main bulkhead a new custom-made wardrobe. As a result, the forepeak became a comfortable single berth, instead of a rather cramped double. The escape hatch was replaced by one of VETUS hatch on a teak substructure that can be opened from the outside as well as from the inside. A plastic one replaced the rubber water tank. A new upholstery was glued to the bare hull, equal and in the same color like the old one. Finally, everything that had been removed for restoration, after a thorough general cleaning carefully put back.
