Cheoy Lee Boats
Cheoy Lee boats have one of the most impressive taglines in the marine industry: “Shipbuilders to the world since 1870.” Few boat manufacturers have so many years of experience in their wake. This Chinese shipyard has built more than 5,000 vessels over the decades and currently boasts a portfolio of designs ranging from 40 to 200 feet. Although it was founded as a yard for steam-powered craft in Shanghai, Cheoy Lee relocated to Hong Kong in 1936. It evolved from a builder of commercial craft to a yard for pleasure yachts built to high standards. (Many of the teak sailing boats produced in the 1950s are still on the water today.) The majority of its recreational yachts are built for the U.S. market. Cheoy Lee is proud of its deep experience with composite fiberglass materials—in 1977, the yard launched the world’s largest fiberglass yacht at the time, a 130-footer. Today, Cheoy Lee collaborates with SP-High Modulus (aka Gurit), a firm known for its work with composite materials. In addition to an eclectic variety of commercial ships, Cheoy Lee has produced motor yachts, expedition yachts and megayachts with classic and conservative lines. Most recently, it expanded its recreational line with a series of express-style cruising yachts featuring a performance edge and aggressive styling.
