IN THE OWNERS WORDS
"Windwalker has been the perfect boat for us - easy to sail and maintain as a couple. She has taken us to many exotic places from the Canadian border to the Caribbean, the Bahamas and across the Gulf to and from Texas. She is solid as a rock, sea kindly in a blow, and performs well on all points of sail or when motoring in the chop. Living aboard is comfortable and easy - whether on the hook or in a marina. "
ACCOMODATIONS & LAYOUT
With over 6'4" of headroom, WINDWALKER is highly customized and styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations; Light, well ventilated and finished in furniture quality teak, custom built cabinetry and features throughout this magnificent yacht, far exceed the standard layout.
The overhead is drop-down Formica panels with teak for ease installation and inspection of above deck fittings. She features private accommodations for two couples in separate rooms, plus settee berths for additional guests. There is a large comfortable private stateroom forward with a large queen sized V-berth. There is ample storage in enclosed shelf lockers to port and starboard, plus long open shelves port and starboard. To starboard, there is a lowboy cedar lined dresser with cupboard over. The V berth has a cruising cover over the cushion to protect the fabric when the v-berth is used for stowing gear. The forward cabin is ventilated by a large opening hatch with screen, two opening ports, and a DC fan.
Aft and to port of the V-Berth, you will find a large head with ensuite shower, one of the most sought after head designs. Again there is ample storage over and under the sink and a large locker outboard. There is hot and cold pressure water, a freshwater foot pump, 2 opening ports and a DC fan. Countertops are a light formica, easy to clean and add to the light and airy reeling below. You will note that everywhere you look, on deck and below deck, the owner has thoughtful and cleverly designed custom items. On the formica countertop, there is a custom liquid soap dispenser attached to an under sink liquid soap container.
Next aft is the main salon. There are large, comfortable settees to port and starboard. The port settee pulls out to make a double bunk. The solid teak dining table is bulkhead mounted and drops down on a custom made, swing-away stainless steel mast bracket. This table can be left in the drop-down port only configuration or the teak leaf can be opened for comfortable dining for six, port and starboard. Settee upholstery is a rich and durable heavy duty, plush corduroy in a deep, luxurious ocean blue. There are custom made decorator pillows. Above and outboard of the settees are custom cabinetry lockers, together with a TV with DVD player to starboard and book shelves to port and starboard. Ventilation in the main salon is provided by 4 opening ports with screens, a large overhead hatch with screen, a dorade vent and a DC fan.
Aft of the main salon and to port, is the classic "U" shaped offshore design galley that will delight the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside. The "U" shaped galley is an excellent layout for the "liveaboard yachtie" with copious storage, far above average. With the combination of lights, ports, companionway and hatches, this galley is a pleasure in which to prepare meals in any conditions. The cook/first mate will appreciate the ease of socializing with those in the main salon...in essence, the perfect workplace for the gourmet cook. There is yet more custom cabinetry, generous counter space, deep double stainless steel sinks, 3 burner gimbaled stainless steel propane stove with broiler, hot & cold pressure water, fresh water foot pump, slide out trash bin, drinking water purifying system, microwave in a custom factory built teak cabinet over the ice box, ample storage in drawers, cabinetry and in counter top lockers. The commodious, properly insulated refrigeration box is divided into refrigerator and freezer and is cooled by a heavy duty Sea Frost compressor powered by AC electricity from the generator or shore power or from an engine driven compressor when underway. There is ah opening port and overhead hatch with screens and yet another DC fan in the galley for optimum ventilation.
Opposite the Galley and to starboard, is a proper forward facing navigation station and large chart table which provides tremendous room for the exceptional compliment of extensive electronic navigation and communication equipment, as well as the well laid out electrical panel. Again, storage is extensive in this area and here also, is a screened opening port and DC fan. The nav seat is large and well padded with a large storage area under and provides excellent seating for charting an afternoon sail or plotting your course across the seven seas.
Just aft of the navigation area, you will find extensive storage in the large galley pantry, hanging locker and separate wet locker which drains to the bilge...abundant storage in these lockers for which Valiants are so well known. "Windwalker" sports generous pantry lockers, bookshelves and hanging lockers throughout. She has superior ventilation below, is extremely bright and cheery with a hand rubbed and oiled teak interior which is offset by off-white formica on countertops and house cabin sides, accented with teak trim and an off-white formica overhead enhances the lightness below.
The master private stateroom is fully enclosed and to port of the companionway stairs and features a queen size berth, privacy door and a unique custom access door to the top of the engine. There is abundant stowage under the berth, an overhead hatch with screen and two opening ports with screens and a DC fan for superior cross ventilation. Here also, is located the custom, factory built locking gun locker. There is excellent engine room access both through the back stateroom and under the cockpit stairs, through a separate engine room door with access to the aft portion of the engine. Access to this area is very likely the best of any sailing yacht in this size category. Again, with dual engine access, this Valiant 40 wins the "serviceability award"!
This yacht incorporates a high degree of custom furniture and cabinetry which only comes in a semi-custom built yacht such as the Valiant. The Valiant 40' is noted for the beautiful joinery and hand rubbed finish. The interior woods are of the finest teak. Below deck ventilation far surpasses the standards in the industry with 11 opening ports and 4 Lewmar overhead hatches. The cabin sole is built of the finest solid teak and holly planks individually screwed down and plugged in the traditional manner. All lockers have lights and ventilation. All hatches, ports and dorades have screens and there are screened hatch boards for the companionway with storage board holder in the wet locker.

ABOVE DECK & HARDWARE
The topsides of “Windwalker" features a large unobstructed deck and cabin top. Safe & secure deck work is ensured with raised bulwarks, double fastened, extra heavy stanchion bases with double lifelines and full length teak handrails on coachroof.
The large and comfortable cockpit is self bailing with oversized scuppers, designed for heavy weather sailing. Excellent visibility from all positions is consistent with the proven offshore capability that the sailing world expects from a serious bluewater yacht.
The mast is keel stepped, hull color and decks are white and there is navy blue whale stripe.
All the bulkheads are built into the boat using high quality marine plywood tabbed and fiber glassed into the hull sides and floor members. All the furniture is built into the boat and all the horizontal and vertical elements are fiber glassed to the hull sides creating a monolithic structure. This type of construction makes the boat very, very strong.
The skeg is constructed of laminated fiberglass and is through bolted and bonded with 3M 5200 with 10 stainless steel bolts with backing plates. The rudder has a solid stainless shaft that is encased with structural foam. The rudder has a cast bronze protective shoe.
