Exterior Observations
Exterior & Flybridge – Thoughtfully Designed for Comfort and Functionality Stern & Cockpit Features
Stepping aboard via the extended and reinforced teak swim platform, access to the cockpit is just one step up through the hinged transom door. The gel coat gleams with a high-luster wax finish, while the natural teak decks display a light silver hue, smooth grain, and flush caulked seams for a refined, well-maintained appearance.
Under the covered cockpit, essential features are neatly integrated, including two stereo speakers, a hot and cold cockpit shower, a freshwater washdown spigot, and a 50-amp stern shore power inlet. The safety rails, made from polished 316L stainless steel, are securely mounted atop the gloss-varnished cap rails, enhancing both aesthetics and durability. The teak name boards, carved with gold leaf and black trim, add a touch of classic Grand Banks elegance.
Moving forward along the wide side decks, a single step amidships leads to the foredeck, which includes snaps for lounge cushions. The pulpit houses a Lofrans Tigres dual capstan electric windlass, with recessed windlass deck switches for easy operation. Additional forward amenities include a 50-amp shore power inlet and a freshwater washdown spigot, ensuring convenience for anchoring and docking.
Flybridge – Elevated Comfort & Functionality
The cockpit stairs lead up eight steps through a sliding hatch to the flybridge, where the aft deck is designed to accommodate a 14' tender or smaller. A Steelhead 800-lb davit is positioned to starboard, while the Magma BBQ is conveniently placed between the dinghy deck and behind the L-shaped settee.
To starboard, a comfortable L-shaped settee with a pedestal teak table provides an inviting space for dining and relaxation. The natural teak decks are glued—not fastened—ensuring a seamless, clean finish, with the teak grain in excellent condition.
The double helm chairs offer superior comfort and enhanced forward visibility, a significant upgrade from the traditional back-to-back bench seating found on most Grand Banks flybridges. The helm console has been redesigned to accommodate modern electronic displays, radios, and—one of the first models to feature built-in drink holders! Ownership History
Ordered new on May 25th, 2004 for a Newport Beach couple who wanted a bigger version of their beloved GB 32. The primary goal was to keep it relatively simple in appearance and operation with neutral fabrics, satin interior finish but make it comfortable less formal. Maximize the generous salon dimensions with a pull-out straight settee to starboard, eliminate the overhead microwave cabinet in the galley so the visibility is nearly 360 degrees from the galley and lower helm. The first owners cared for AMANDA for ten years as a stately weekend Newport harbor cruiser with occasional daytime guests. The second owner renamed it SEQUEL and relocated for a brief period in Ventura and was forced to sell it only after a few years due to illness. During that time the dinghy davit was added and the electronics were updated. The third owners kept it in Dana Point for approximately six months before selling when their name came up for a larger slip and a bigger boat. The current owner purchased it in 2018 and has enjoyed seven years of family cruising and has been based out of Marina Del Rey. They have made numerous improvements and maintained it to the level one would expect of such a fine craft. Most recently the Caterpillar after coolers were serviced in 5/2024, heat exchangers were cleaned 12/2024 and the Tides shaft seals were replaced this year. It could be debated that in its current state 42#1544 is in better condition now than ever before and is held in a transferable Delaware LLC.
