Designed by one of the best performance/cruising sailboat designers, Carl Schumacher (1949-2002) and built by TPI, the Alerion Express 28 has a fin keel with a spade rudder. There were 115 of these hulls produced originally with the first two builders. In 2018 US Watercraft took over production and today there are 470 hulls produced. Schumacher designed over 50 production and custom sailboat designs and four of his designs have won Sailing World’s prestigious Boat of the Year Award and is recognized as a member of the Sailing Hall of Fame. The Alerion 28 is genuinely a fun boat to sail and is reported to have a larger boat feel with small boat excitement and responsiveness. She is a descendent of Nathanial Herreshoff’s 1912 26’ Alerion III with the combination of Herreshoff’s original lines topside and a modern underbody. Designed as a day sailor/racer she has an easy to handle sail plan and a decent sized teak cockpit. In 1994 Garry Hoyt introduced the Hoyt jib boom and that significantly simplified sail handling. Early boats were built of balsa core, but later and current boats were made of foam core with infusion molding for a strong, beautiful vessel. He interior is varnished & includes cushions to accommodate 4 berths. Lady Madonna is a fresh water boat with a ton of good looks and excellent sailing performance and a build quality that is unsurpassed. Lady Madonna is in excellent condition, has undergone the best of care and ready to sail. This is also a very easy boat for a solo sailor.

Sailboats are by nature graceful, and many claim to please your eye. But the Alerion Express 28 has consistently been recognized as one of the prettiest boats on the water. That she also has a thoroughly modern underwater shape simply adds to her lustre.
A maximized cockpit and cabin makes the Alerion Express 28 the perfect cruising yacht for you and your spouse – for weekend adventures or just a spur of the moment evening or after-work sail. By preserving the traditional look topside – where it shows, and giving the hull a modern design below the waterline, the Alerion Express 28 offers the best of both worlds: great style and great performance along with the pride and admiration they bring.
A very manageable sailplan with a self-tacking jib boom is easily single-handed. And even the most die-hard racers speak of how beautifully balanced and delightful it is to sail the Alerion Express 28.
