Description
World acclaimed designers and engineers, Morrelli & Melvin, have ensured that the DNA of the Rapido 60 has been incorporated into the Rapido 40.
It is a state of the art trimaran designed and built for:
- Podium performances
- Fast passage-making
- Classic cruising
- Couples; and
- Sailors.
The Rapido 40 is a high tech, all-carbon, performance cruiser with a self-tacking jib, carbon spreaderless mast and an option for a roller furling boom.
The interiors have super lightweight, strong, custom made furniture; even the countertops and drawers are carbon! The flooring is made from cork.
While others are compelled to motor away from weather systems best avoided, the Rapido can be powered up to simply sail away with the skipper maintaining complete control.
Safety is a big factor in our design and construction. As well as carbon-foam construction, there are multiple watertight bulkheads. The engine compartment is contained within watertight bulkheads.
We build our own epoxy prepreg autoclave-cured mast (performance and cruising) and boom (also designed by Morrelli & Melvin specifically for the Rapido 40), as well as dagger C foils, rudders, beams, chainplate bulkheads, folding struts, pulpits, seats, table, benchtop and drawers (in galley).
Essentially, if you have a passion for sailing, this is the boat for you!
The asymmetric twin “C” foils give the Rapido 40 more lift than usual resulting in a significant increase in performance, both upwind and downwind. Also, the C foils eliminate the need for a centre daggerboard through the saloon which increases the amount of interior space. It also creates 360 degree visibility.
For normal day sailing or cruising, both C foils can be in the “down" position or one raised without adding material drag.

SAFETY for RAPIDO means designing and constructing a boat that far exceeds the typical production or semi customized boat. CE A certified and designed to meet Category 1 offshore race requirements. Carbon foam sandwich construction for ultra strength with weight savings. Numerous water tight bulkheads and bulkheads with no through penetrations below the water line all combined to make Rapidos unsinkable. A righting moment designed to enhance safety. Fact is trimarans are far safer than catamarans.
SPACE! This trimarans has amazing living and storage space with 360 degrees views from the saloon. Sails, water toys, inflatable tender and outboard can all be stored in the huge float lockers. Generous cockpit locker (with double aft cabin), under settee storage in the saloon and forward bunk as well as excellent galley and hanging locker and forward clothing lockers.
STABLE comfortable sailing in almost all conditions. Sailing at 5-8 degrees is significantly less tiring for all on board than 25-35 degrees on a monohull and without the slamming and poor pointing abilities of catamarans. Rapidos are designed for ease of sailing with self tacking roller furling jibs, easy to reef mains and other heads sails on furlers.
PERFORMANCE and SAFETY. Rapidos have super efficient hulls and with carbon foam sandwich construction have significant weight savings while ensuring a stronger boat. Combined with the generous sail plan one can power up and cruise in a sweet spot comfort zone of 14-18 knots with speeds over 24 knots easily obtainable. Being able to power up and away from approaching storms is a much under rated safety factor.
