Class History
Class History
The Wianno Senior Knockabout has been racing on the Nantucket Sound since the summer of 1914. the boat was designed as a day sailor for summer residents of the Cape. It has remained the principal one-design class of the open waters of Nantucket Sound. In 2008 a European fleet was established in Porto Santo Stefano, Grosseto, Italy.
The last new Wooden Wianno Senior was built in 1976. After a ten year drought fleet elders commissioned Sparkman & Stephens and "design 2498" was created. The resultant Fiberglass Wianno Senior is "true to the original" visually and underway. Close supervision by the Wianno Senior Class Association ensures that the integrity of the class is maintained and success is the result of preparation by, and the ability of, the skipper and crew.
